wardrobe planning

Posted by Jessica Povenmire on

My list of projects that I want to make has just been getting longer and longer since Me-Made-May. I was just so inspired by everyone to really create my own handmade wardrobe that I suddenly had more outfits that I wanted to make than time to make them! Of course. Story of my life.

So when I visited Portland a few weeks ago and went fabric shopping I had a real hard time saying no to all of it. I'm sure I could have taken everything home. All you Portland people – Mill End Store. oh.em.gee. I was so overwhelmed in the best way possible! I decided that before we go back, I needed to do some planning so that I really know what I need. And since so many of you have asked me on Instagram about what’s on my sewing list, I figured I would share my inspiration and planning board here.

At the end of the day, I'm a fan of pens and paper. Pinterest is great, but when it comes right down to it, I want to be able to touch my fabric and mix and match patterns to see how everything looks as as whole. So I printed and cut out inspiration images of all the patterns on my list, as well as swatches of the fabrics I'm planning on using. It's a great way to see how all the pieces work together instead of just creating pieces here and there. You'll notice there's a big focus on wardrobe staples. Instead of crazy prints and dresses that I might only wear once a year, I really want to work on some layering pieces and good basics.

So of course, now I’m ready for another trip to Portland…
