Here come the holidays!

What a week for La Mercerie!

Yesterday, we launched two new kits in the shop! The Scout Tee, by Grainline Studio is the first apparel pattern that I ever attempted. It is a great introduction into garment construction and Jen has quite a few tutorials on her blog that go over introductory techniques, like french seams and biased necklines. In all honesty, it's Jen's blog that taught me the basics for sewing apparel, which is why I'm so excited to be working with her with La Mercerie!

This pattern is the perfect place to begin if you're curious about making your own clothes. Right now, the basic kit includes the printed pattern and muslin to make a practice top, but keep an eye out next week for kits that have apparel fabric included so that you can make both your sample and a finished piece! And don't forget, the muslin at La Mercerie is good quality, so if your practice piece fits well, you can dye it and wear it as a basic woven tee!

And of course, what's a holiday season without a classic Christmas stocking? I've been on the search for a good pattern to make some heirloom pieces for my family for the past couple of years, but hadn't found the right one yet. The basic stocking from Churchmouse Yarns is the perfect solution-it's a durable and classic construction, but incredibly customizable with proportions, patterns, and more. Now I just have to see how many I can finish before Christmas...

Even more exciting, today was the first day of Oh, Sweet Joy's annual holiday gift guide and I'm so excited that La Mercerie gets to be a part of it this year! Kim does such a great job promoting small businesses during the holidays and has some lovely gift ideas. Plus, most of the shops are offering some sort of promotion for the gift guide too! Here at La Mercerie, you can use promo code OHSWEETJOY and get 10% off your total order. Today, the gift guide featured accessories shops, but throughout the week, there will be other categories including apparel, jewelry, and (my favorite!) paper. If you're planning on getting started on your holiday shopping, this will be the place to start!
