Learn a new colorwork method!
Summernight Sky is a triangular shawl, knit using two fingering weight yarns in contrasting colors. The color work is done using the Mosaic technique (slipped stitches). It is a good introduction to those wanting to try out colorwork for the first time since only one color is used per row.
This shawl is beginner friendly, if you know how to cast on and bind off you can learn everything else you need to know in the class. This pattern includes fully written row by row instructions but also charts. It is a wonderful pattern to start learning to read charts if you are unfamiliar with how to read them or just want a refresher.
During the first class we can send time talking about contrasting colors, picking out yarn and going over gauge swatches/practicing techniques needed for the pattern. There will be 3 class sessions, 3 hours each. This shawl has been one of the instructors wardrobe staples since they completed it! It has a generous size and can be worn multiple ways. Good layering piece for the fall and winter and even works well for cool spring mornings curled up on the couch with a good book and cup of tea!
Students should know how to cast on, cast off, and garter stitch for flat knitting. Preferred knowledge but can be taught in class if its new to you: increase with kfb stitch (knit front back).
This class is held in person at our Bainbridge Island shop over 3 sessions on Saturdays, September 26, October 24, and November 21 from 3:30pm - 6:30pm. Taught by Samantha Walker!
