Exordium Shawl - Dec 19, Jan 9 & 30
Knit your first shawl!
According to Rebecca Picoult, the pattern designer, “Exordium: means the beginning of anything.” It was our instructors first shawl project and is still one of their favorites! It’s a first time shawl knitter friendly pattern and gauge is not critical. Everyone they have taught this pattern loves it and has said that it has helped them learn to read their knitting much better.
It has calming sections of garter, simple stripes and a fun, almost star like stitch that is created with a combo of slipping stitches and yarn overs. This is a great project for that one precious skein you don't know what to do with in your stash. It utilizes 2 contrasting skeins of fingering weight yarn, one can be highly speckled or variegated and you can pair it with a simple solid for some nice easy contrast.
Our instructor's original shawl got a skein of Malabrigo sock yarn in the color Candombe from yarn shop in the French Quarter of New Orleans. The colors reminded them of Mardi Gras, whenever they wear it, they remember what a fantastic trip they had. It’s also a great way to mix yarn bases just for fun to see how they knit up. The class will be taught over 3, 3 hour sessions. Total of 9 hours.
Students should know how to cast on and knitting garter stitch (flat knitting). Preferred knowledge but can be taught in class if its new to you: yarn overs.
