Songbird Mittens - January 11 & 25
Knit the beautiful Songbird Mittens!
This class is for intermediate knitters who are interested in learning stranded colorwork, while making a timeless & whimsical winter accessory, the Songbird Mittens by Erica Heusser.
In our first 3 hour session, we will cast on together and dive into the basics of stranded colorwork. In our second and final session, we will learn how to finish the mittens together: decreasing while following a colorwork chart, and picking up stitches to knit the thumb.
This class is held in person at our Bainbridge Island shop over two sessions on Sunday January 11th and Sunday January 25th from 10:00am - 1:00pm.
Must Know:
- Knit and Purl
- Work in the round, either magic loop or DPNs (Magic Loop is recommended for this pattern)
- Basic increases and decreases
Techniques you'll learn:
- How to read and follow colorwork charts with confidence
- How to knit using two colors at the same time (Both English and Continental techniques will be covered).
- Color dominance: What is it? And why it matters!
- Techniques for tensioning your colorwork
- Catching floats
What you'll need for the class:
- 320 yards of Fingering/Sock weight yarn in 2 high contrasting colors (approximately 160 yards of each color) - We recommend Ampersand Avenir or Le Petit Lambswool
Tip: Unsure if your yarn colors will work well together? Use a black and white filter on your camera to see the contrast. Higher contrast will work best for this pattern!
- Needles: US 2 / 2.75mm needles, cable length 32”-40” for magic loop or DPNs
- Waste Yarn
