Mosaic knitting is one of the easiest ways to add colorwork to your knitting—and it only uses one strand of yarn at a time! In this project-based class, we’ll use Amy Christoffers’ Pressed Flowers Kerchief pattern to explore the basics of mosaic knitting in a relaxed and supportive setting. You’ll learn how to read a mosaic chart, choose colors that make your stitches pop, and knit beautiful, floral-inspired motifs without having to manage two yarns at once.

This class is perfect for adventurous beginners to intermediate knitters who are comfortable with knit and purl stitches and have some experience with increasing. It’s a great first step into the world of two-color knitting, and you’ll leave with a gorgeous kerchief and the confidence to tackle more mosaic projects.

The Pressed Flowers Kerchief pattern is included in the class fee. Students will need to bring or purchase their own yarn and needles. We’ll briefly talk about color choice in class—if you’re bringing your own yarn, consider selecting two colors with high contrast. We’ll discuss tips for evaluating contrast and choosing combinations that work well for mosaic patterns.


Materials to bring or purchase

- DK-Worsted-weight yarn, we recommend Dream State and Penelope

- Color 1: 114yd / 50 g

- Color 2: 114yd / 50 g

- Size US 6 (4mm) circular needles (24" or longer)

This class is held in person at our Bainbridge Island shop on Sunday, July 13 from 10:00am -12:30pm.

This class will be taught by our very own Betsy Pingree!

 

We will provide the printed pattern and a few notions. Needles and yarn should be purchased separately. If you'd like to purchase supplies from us, contact us for a 15% off discount, but you're welcome to bring your own supplies! This project works great for scraps.
